Bunk beds

The time had come for Owen to get out of his crib. He has been climbing out of it since he was about 18 months old but he was now using it as a trampoline. As we do hope to need that crib again in December :) and wanted it in one piece, it was time for him to get a 'big-boy bed'. We ended up buying bunk beds for the kids, which opened up the one side of the room for their toys and a play area. They are both thrilled with their new beds. I just finished sewing Owen's duvet cover and he loves it that he has a 'big blanket' just like Kendra's!

A bike and a park

We are definitely into Spring weather around here and that means more time outside. With Kevin gone to Honduras for about 12 days, we take every opportunity to do things out of the house, just to break things up a bit. So, with the sun shining this morning, we headed off to the park. We just recently found a bike for Kendra and because we live on a fairly steep hill, riding it on the road was not really an option. We decided to pack up her bike and let her have a ride around the nice, flat walkway at the park. (Thanks Ryder, for the training wheels - it makes learning to ride a bike a whole lot easier!! Maybe next year she'll be able to ride her bike without them like you can!)

Owen was quite content to just check out what she was doing on her bike and run on ahead.

My little OCD child making sure all the '0's were lined up! After that he switched them all so the 'x's were all lined up and then was content to slide down the slide!

Creative kids

I love to watch the creativity of kids. There are some things that you can't really 'teach' kids but they somehow just figure out how to do it. Before we had all this beautiful sunshine, we had a few days of rain which meant more time during the day in the house. So, in order to entertain themselves, Kendra and Owen came up with a few new ways to use things in the house. It is so fun to see them playing and working together (with minor squabbles thrown in there too!). We'll see what they come up with next!

They had finished watching "The Magic School Bus" on T.V. and after I turned it off they decided that they needed to make their own bus. So, they lined up all the chairs and stools in the house, put a stuffie on each one and then sang "The Wheels on the Bus" song over and over!

Kendra's new fish, Jupiter, is still quite a hit (and is still alive too!!). But one day Kendra decided that he looked quite lonely in his little bowl all by himself. So, she lined up all her dinosaurs around his bowl so he would have some company. As a Japanese fighter fish who is meant to be alone, he went a little crazy with all those eyes looking at him!

My kids love to read books but on this day they decided it would be fun to use them as stepping stones on a path all through the house. I don't usually encourage stepping on books but I had a hard time stiffling their creativity and it was keeping them quite entertained on a rainy day!

Walk for Lysa

This Sunday, April 5th, we will be doing the "Walk for Lysa". Lysa was my neice who was taken to be with Jesus on July 8th, 2002 at the age of 19. She was an amazing individual who never let the fact that she had Muscular Dystrophy inhibit her from doing anything she wanted to do. Through her determination and the way she lived out her life to the fullest, she touched so many lives. As a tangible way to remember Lysa, a group of her friends decided to start the Walk for Lysa in the spring of 2003. The first walk was a huge success and it continues to raise much needed money and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy. If you would like to learn more about Muscular Dystrophy, follow this link to the Fraser Valley Chapter.

The 5 km walk will be held at Mill Lake in Abbotsford this Sunday, with registration at 1:00 and the walk starting at 2:00 p.m. Feel free to come out and just enjoy the walk around the lake. For more details, click on the info brochure or the registration form. We would love to see you there!

Our first pet!

A few months ago Kendra discovered that I had a small fish bowl (I used to use it in my classroom for treats) and so from that time on, the main request for her birthday was to have a fish. So yesterday, Kevin arrived at home with our first fish. We are still debating over a name (Kendra wants 'Goldie', Kevin wants 'Shaggy' and I like 'Jupiter') so for now it is just 'fish'. We'll see how long it lasts!!!

Happy 4th Birthday Kendra!

Yesterday Kendra had her 4th birthday! By this age she definitely knew what birthdays were all about and had been counting downs days for quite a long time. The big day finally arrived and it was quite a fun one. She had a few friends over for a little party in the morning and then some family over in the afternoon.
Yay - a new game to play!
Finally getting to open the card from Grandma!
Doing some painting with her friends.
Make a wish and BLOW!!

Opening a present from her second cousin, Sydney. Owen was right in on the action as usual!
All tuckered out and ready for a nap! Having a birthday party is a lot of work, you know!!
