Walk for Lysa

This Sunday, April 5th, we will be doing the "Walk for Lysa". Lysa was my neice who was taken to be with Jesus on July 8th, 2002 at the age of 19. She was an amazing individual who never let the fact that she had Muscular Dystrophy inhibit her from doing anything she wanted to do. Through her determination and the way she lived out her life to the fullest, she touched so many lives. As a tangible way to remember Lysa, a group of her friends decided to start the Walk for Lysa in the spring of 2003. The first walk was a huge success and it continues to raise much needed money and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy. If you would like to learn more about Muscular Dystrophy, follow this link to the Fraser Valley Chapter.

The 5 km walk will be held at Mill Lake in Abbotsford this Sunday, with registration at 1:00 and the walk starting at 2:00 p.m. Feel free to come out and just enjoy the walk around the lake. For more details, click on the info brochure or the registration form. We would love to see you there!

Our first pet!

A few months ago Kendra discovered that I had a small fish bowl (I used to use it in my classroom for treats) and so from that time on, the main request for her birthday was to have a fish. So yesterday, Kevin arrived at home with our first fish. We are still debating over a name (Kendra wants 'Goldie', Kevin wants 'Shaggy' and I like 'Jupiter') so for now it is just 'fish'. We'll see how long it lasts!!!

Happy 4th Birthday Kendra!

Yesterday Kendra had her 4th birthday! By this age she definitely knew what birthdays were all about and had been counting downs days for quite a long time. The big day finally arrived and it was quite a fun one. She had a few friends over for a little party in the morning and then some family over in the afternoon.
Yay - a new game to play!
Finally getting to open the card from Grandma!
Doing some painting with her friends.
Make a wish and BLOW!!

Opening a present from her second cousin, Sydney. Owen was right in on the action as usual!
All tuckered out and ready for a nap! Having a birthday party is a lot of work, you know!!

My next budding artist

Owen loves to do what his sister is doing so it only makes sense that Owen would also love to paint, just like Kendra does. Today, however, he found the paints and the paper by himself and wanted to paint, even though Kendra was doing something else. He was concentrating quite hard to make his picture just the way he wanted it to be. When he was finished, he proudly exclaimed, "I done my picture, mommy!"
I put his picture in a spare frame I had and added a green paper border around it. I think it looks pretty good for a 2 year old, but I might be a little biased!!

Another little project

Since my sewing machine was out from my quilting projects last week, I figured I would make some more use of it! A few years ago, Fanny's Fabrics went out of business and by the end they were almost giving away their fabric so I bought some pieces with the intention of making all kinds of cute outfits. However, it all sat in my sewing box and I kinda forgot about it. So, this week I resurrected my box and found that I had a dress pattern already cut out, just waiting to be pieced together. A couple of afternoons of my kids napping, and 'voila' - a new dress for Kendra! She usually does not like to try on clothes but for some reason she was quite excited to try on something that her mommy had made! I think it will make a cute Easter dress!

My latest project

I am quite excited about the completion of my latest project - a baby quilt for my friend Carole. As they didn't want to know what the gender of their baby was, I had to revert from the traditional colours of pink or blue. So, I found these colours in the quilt store and I quite love them! The outside and the back is made with a fabric called 'minky' (you often see it with the little raised polkadots in it) and it is just the softest material ever - perfect for a baby blanket. However, they no longer make this fabric so I will have to find something else to use on the next one! I thoroughly enjoyed making this as I have always loved quilts and have always kinda wanted to try it out. We'll see where this takes me next!! I hope you like it Carole, and I can't wait to see your new little miracle wrapped up in it!!!
